iRIS – the intuitive, collaborative simulation authoring platform

September 28, 2017 by Jane Nicklin

iRIS is a unique web-based platform to help you design high quality scenarios and offer the best learning experience possible, as well as helping you get the best value from the investments you have made in manikins, simulated patient programmes and other resources.

ASPiH works in partnership with the developers of iRIS, software company TWM E8, to introduce iRIS which supports the development of high quality content in-line with the latest ASPiH Simulation Based Education Standards.

iRIS will support you in:

  • ensuring your scenarios are developed in a standardised, high quality manner
  • creating significant efficiencies in terms of the time required for designing scenarios and collating simulation resources
  • reducing the time and effort required to train colleagues in the design and authoring of scenarios
  • building engagement with a wider range of clinicians to harness their expertise in developing new scenarios
  • driving interprofessional collaboration and sharing of content with other simulation professionals

Authors can collaborate on scenarios together internally, or in partnership with other organisations, without the need to send scenarios and their related resources to each other via email.

iRIS supports the entire simulation team offering benefits for authors, facilitators, simulation technicians and learners that drives operational performance, cost reduction, increased efficiency and continuous improvement.

To give you a taste of iRIS you can watch a brief introductory video on our Vimeo channel

The iRIS licensing model is very flexible letting you allocate licenses to users outside of your organisation for collaboration, and letting you assign licenses to users for short periods of time and then reuse them. It has a very low cost initial investment allowing your organisation to start using iRIS for only £1,750 + VAT per annum for up to 10 authors, facilitators and simulation technologists. TWM E8 also support you in developing your first scenarios using iRIS through online coaching sessions designed around your priorities and requirements. iRIS is a web based solution meaning there is nothing to install locally.

iRIS has recently been put through its paces by the ASPiH Paediatrics SIG to develop a Paediatric 6-Year-Old Sepsis Management Scenario which is freely available to all. It has been developed so that it can be used in a variety of simulation environments. The team of specialists from across the UK used the iRIS Simulation Authoring Platform to collaborate and co-develop the simulation, and all the required resources in a standardised way. Follow the link to access both content and Case study

TWM E8 will be at ASPiH 2017 and are happy to demonstrate their solution, and show the Paediatric 6-Year-Old Sepsis Management Scenario on Stand 21 in the Exhibition Hall.
