Purpose
The purpose the ASPIH Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group (SIG) is to promote the continuing professional development of simulation across all parts of the Emergency Care pathway from community to tertiary care and back again to all ASPiH members.
2025 -2027 Objectives
Create a shared evidence base and experience of models for different types of simulation to support learning across the emergency care pathway
Consider a research / evaluation project
Create a forum to share common themes from quality assurance audits / evaluation of FD
Continue supporting and providing resources for the ASPiH Membership to support their local simulation practices.
Membership
The SIG is open to invited and active members of ASPIH. The SIG aims to actively seek diversity within its membership including, but not limited to, professional discipline, sex, gender, and ethnicity across all areas of the emergency care pathway.
The SIG aims to ensure representation from all four nations of the United Kingdom, as well as wider membership from across the globe as ASPIH membership increases.
Meetings
An annual face to face open meeting will be held at ASPiH’s annual conference.
2-4 group meetings will be held online throughout the year to discuss projects, share ideas and encourage potential new members to register interest and become involved. These may take the form of Lunch and Learn, open meetings or journal club sessions.
The SIG members are responsible for coordinating content for webinars, journal club and conference session.
A hosting rota will be developed to distribute the workload and ensure cover to allow the SIG to run efficiently and effectively.
Meeting Processes
The SIG will meet quarterly, although additional meetings may be convened as required.
In the event that decision making consensus cannot be reached within the group, the final decision will rest with the Chair.
Where substantial or extended work is required, a subgroup will be appointed to progress matters between meetings.
These subgroups will be responsible for progressing the matter and reporting back to the main group on identified ‘themes’ which they will be addressing.
Reporting
The SIG reports to the ASPIH Executive Committee (EC) and is asked to provide an annual report to the ASPiH EC.
