ASPiH Journal Club

ASPiH Journal Club – A community of practice
Open to all

Join our monthly online journal club via Zoom.

We are expanding on the principles of ASPiH as a community of practice for simulation and will be hosting a monthly online journal club.

We aim for the journal club to be what a journal club is, a great opportunity to review and share views on 1 -2 papers, but we plan to connect the journal club sessions with the ASPiH Special Interest Groups (SIGS) where papers will link to the SIGs to help inform and support the evidence for simulation practice.

The reference/ paper link will be available on the Website two weeks prior to the scheduled Journal Club date. If you would like the join the ASPiH Journal Club please email for a link [email protected]

While we’ll work with critical appraisal approaches, we’ll also encourage you to consider alternative approaches such as FAME - the feasibility, appropriateness, the meaningfulness, and effectiveness (FAME) of research findings to your area of simulation and interactive learning practice.

Join us and let's get the conversations going!

Examples of the questions you might consider as you review the article are:

1. What was the overall purpose of the study?
2. What methods were used?
3. What were the main results?
4. What are the strengths of the study?
5. What are the limitations of the study?
6. To what extent did the authors achieve what they set out to achieve?
7. In what ways do the findings relate to your practice?
8. What further research might be carried out in the future?
9. Is there anything that you think is missing from the article?
10. What else would you like to know?
11. What did you notice about the article? What made you curious?
12. Identify some of the strengths and weaknesses, what could've been done to improve the study?
13. Identify the implications of the results found and whether you think they may or may not influence your practice beneficially or adversely?
14. What further research might be carried out in the future?
15. Consider the feasibility, appropriateness, the meaningfulness and effectiveness (FAME) of the research findings to their own area of clinical practice.
