Transformative Simulation (TfS) Infographics and Videos

This collection of infographics has been developed to support simulation practitioners, educators, researcher’s and leaders in intentionally designing simulation for systemic and cultural change.

These visual resources illustrate key concepts from the Transformative Simulation (TfS) framework (Weldon et al., 2023) and are intended to be used as practical tools to spark reflection, guide planning, and support conversations around impact. They are free to download and use, but we kindly ask that you reference the work appropriately when citing or sharing publicly.

Please note that these infographics are illustrative in nature. More detailed explanations, real-world examples, and practical applications will be included in an upcoming book dedicated to Transformative Simulation.

If you’re interested in shaping and expanding this work further, we warmly invite you to join the ASPiH Transformative Simulation Special Interest Group (TfS SIG)—a growing community of practitioners exploring the future of simulation as a tool for meaningful change.

Videos to explain the framework

Transformative Simulation – Why We Built the Framework

Overview videos: The Transformative Simulation framework, its foundations, and the Simulation-Based ‘I’s (SBIs)

Start here to understand the core of Transformative Simulation: where it came from, what it stands for, and how it builds on decades of learning across fields like human factors, patient safety science, quality improvement, social sciences and more. These videos offer an accessible foundation for anyone curious about how simulation can be used for real change.

The Five Foundational Pillars

Overview of the Simulation-Based ‘I’s (SBIs)

TfS in Practice: Process and Application (Coming soon…)

These short videos will explore the four key elements - Design, Delivery, Data, and Debrief - and how they bring intentionality and impact to simulation practice. They’ll help you move from theory into action, one step at a time.

The 4 D s of Transformative Simulation

Deep Dives into the SBIs: Theories, Models & Practice (Coming soon…)

Each of the Simulation-Based ‘I’s will be explored individually - unpacking their theoretical roots, practical implications, and how they shape every stage of simulation. With examples from real-world settings, these videos support deeper design, reflection, and collaboration.
